Money and Rug Value
Make Rugs: How to Make Money and Increase Rug Value
Last updated:
Turn finished rugs into cash through customer purchases in your showroom. Choose a design that fits your yarn supply, then use combination previews, design mastery, and optional edging to improve its value.
Quick answer
Sell finished rugs to showroom customers to earn cash. Start with Simple Mat if you have one yarn portion, or unlock Inset Heart for 40 cash when you have two. Check the Rug value preview when assigning yarn, repeat designs for mastery bonuses, and add optional edging for up to +5% value. The 79- and 117-cash examples below belong to specific finished configurations.

Earn Cash through Customer Rug Purchases
Customers buying your displayed rugs provide cash for design unlocks and studio purchases.
- Choose an available design and prepare enough yarn for its required areas.
- Complete the tufting and shaving, then add optional edging or skip it to finish the rug.
- Carry the finished rug into the showroom and click the yellow + on an empty display rack.
- Wait for a customer to purchase it. Hanging a rug puts it up for sale; it does not complete the purchase.
Use the rug-making walkthrough for the full crafting process, or the display and selling guide for rack locations and more display space. Cash can fund design unlocks and studio purchases. For gems, follow the separate order packing and shipping route.
Start with Simple Mat or Choose a Two-Color Heart
- Choose Simple Mat for your first rug or when you have only one yarn portion. It is a Level 0 design with one area and one yarn allocation, making it a straightforward starting choice.
- Choose Inset Heart when you have two yarn portions and want separate outer and inner colors. Pay 40 cash to unlock it, then assign one portion to Border and one to Heart. Collect both portions before starting; unlocking the design does not supply its yarn.
- Consider your existing mastery when deciding what to repeat. Completing more rugs of the same design advances that design's selling-price bonus, so an established design can be worth continuing alongside new unlocks.
Use your available materials and mastery progress to choose your next rug. Find other shapes and their requirements in the design directory, or use the yarn guide to roll and collect more materials.
Use the Yarn Combination Value Preview
Read Rug value after filling all yarn assignments to compare the selected combination before you begin tufting. For an Inset Heart configuration that displays ×2:
- Assign Blackberry to Border for a dark-purple outer region.
- Assign Rainwashed to Heart for a blue-gray center.
- Read the Rug value ×2 preview, then select Continue to begin.
The ×2 belongs to this complete combination, rather than to either yarn individually. Keep it separate from the Cotton Cloud/Wisteria heart's 117-cash finished value below: those are different yarn configurations, so multiplying 117 by two would not price this rug.
Build Mastery and Consider Optional Edging
Repeat a design for selling-price bonuses
Complete more rugs of the design you want to improve. Mastery advances separately for each design and provides these selling-price bonuses:
| Mastery | Selling-price bonus |
|---|---|
| Bronze | +5% |
| Silver | +10% |
| Gold | +15% |
The mastery menu also includes a +25% tier. Use your chosen design's current progress and target with the remaining rugs calculator to work out how many more completions you need.
Add outer edging after shaving
After shaving, choose an edging color and trace the rug's outer edge to finish the border. This extra finishing step can add up to +5% value; every attempt does not automatically receive the full bonus. Choose None if you want to skip it.
Inset Heart's yarn-filled Border area is part of the pattern. You still fill that area even when you skip the optional outer edging.
Compare Finished Values with Their Full Configurations
These two finished rugs have different yarn and finishing configurations. Both values are displayed before a customer purchase.
| Design | Yarn configuration | Quality | Optional outer edging | Displayed finished value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Mat | Indigo Denim | 100% | Purple | 79 cash |
| Inset Heart | Cotton Cloud in Border; Wisteria in Heart | 100% | None | 117 cash |
The Cotton Cloud/Wisteria heart reaches 100% quality without optional edging. The Simple Mat includes a purple finishing border, so these are not otherwise identical builds.
The heart has the higher displayed value in this pair, while Simple Mat needs fewer yarn allocations and has one area to work through. For repeated production, weigh those material and workflow differences alongside your design mastery. A higher value per rug does not by itself mean a higher net return per minute.
Treat 79 and 117 cash as values for these configurations, rather than fixed prices for every Simple Mat or Inset Heart. Neither amount is net profit. The heart's 40-cash unlock buys access to the design; it is not a material charge for each rug.
